About Mark Polen: WV Government Relations Director

Mark Polen is the director of government relations and advocacy at LG Government Solutions LLC in Charleston, West Virginia (WV). In addition to providing WV government relations advice and guidance to the law firm’s clients, he also offers strategic communications and public relations counsel in WV and leads the Lewis Gianola government relations and advocacy team.

Experienced WV Government Relations Counsel and Advocacy

Mr. Polen has represented clients at all levels of government in WV since 1981 and has deep experience as a lobbyist and communications strategist concerning matters pending before the West Virginia Legislature and numerous regulatory agencies.

Throughout his career, Mr. Polen has specialized in managing telecommunications, healthcare, energy and natural resources, insurance, trade association, and other significant business issues. He has served as executive director of the West Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association since 1998.

Mr. Polen joined Lewis Gianola PLLC after a 20-year career with The Arnold Agency, having served as president of the agency from 1998 to 2013. He also served as vice president of the West Virginia Coal Association for ten years and held executive positions with the West Virginia Automobile Dealers Association and the Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce at the beginning of his career.

Appointed to the West Virginia Educational Broadcasting Authority by Governor Bob Wise in 2002, Mr. Polen was subsequently reappointed by Governors Joe Manchin and Earl Ray Tomblin. He served as vice chairman of the Authority until 2015. He also served on gubernatorial transition teams for Governors Cecil Underwood, Wise, Manchin, and Jim Justice. Additionally, Mr. Polen also successfully managed many statewide political and ballot campaigns throughout his career.

A native of Moundsville in Marshall County, Mr. Polen graduated cum laude with degrees in history and political science from West Virginia University (WVU) before receiving his master’s degree in public administration from WVU.
